This month our official outing is the away weekend to the Nuy Valley.

However, we have been invited to join the Archaeology Society on their visit to Piketberg on the 24th October 2015.

Please note that you must book if you want to join the outing by contacting Nigel Amschwand. If you want to eat at the restaurant, you must book directly with them.

PIKETBERG

The outing comprises two parts.

Firstly, a visit to the Piketberg Information Centre to look at the storyboards containing information on the Oral History Project conducted by Antonia Malan and her team. The Information Centre (housed in the old Synagogue) is adjacent to the Piketberg Museum that contains many items of interest.

In the afternoon we will drive north to the Droogeryskloof to visit a farm, Wagenpad, where Guy Thomas of Heritage Western Cape will tell us about his investigations into the farm’s history.

Venue: Piketberg Museum and Information Centre, Piketberg.

Meeting time: 11:00 – Eleven o’clock.

Directions: Piketberg is just off the N7 – clearly marked turn-off – about 2 hours drive from the centre of Cape Town on the N7.

Cost: Entrance to the Museum is free, but we would like to make a donation of R10 per person, which we will collect together with the Arch Soc outing fee.

Arch Soc fee: R25 per member; R30 per guest, inclusive of Museum donation referred to above.

Itinerary: 11:00 – 12:15.  Welcome Tea/Coffee at the Museum. View oral history information boards and museum.

12:15 – 13:30: While Piketberg is not noted for its culinary opportunities, there is a restaurant within walking distance which will open for lunch if sufficiently pre-booked
